Any business will tell you that they want to get more bodies in the door – and that’s true; a company wants to make sales. But how are they getting those bodies in the door?
Companies that are adapting to today’s trends will tell you that they have always done offline marketing through radio ads, newspaper ads, and other advertisements and they have tried to do online marketing. When interviewing with companies to see if Impyre will be the right fit for the company, I consistently hear, “Well, we have a website… but that doesn’t get found.”
I quickly reply asking, “What have you done to get your website found?”
I think the response that I received is a common misconception of Internet marketing. The gentleman replied, “Well, we have put together a couple thousand dollar budget a couple years ago and put ads on a website.”
I asked about the results and he claimed they burned through their budget within three days. What were the company’s results?Nothing.
The company put together an ad campaign (that really consisted of one website) and thought that if they put their ad on that website, quality traffic will come to their website and they would get business. The company couldn’t have approached their Internet marketing any worse. They had a simple goal: drive new traffic to their website to get clients. But unlike any marketing strategy, they did not define who they were targeting, where they were putting their ad space, and how they were going to convert the traffic into clients.
I really enjoy this story. Not because it demonstrates an approach to online marketing that so many companies have used and not gotten any reward but mainly because it describes a situation where I, Jeff Casteen, am able to come in and help.
